After obtaining the Power Stone from Xandar, Thanos, together with his lieutenants Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw, Cull Obsidian, and Proxima Midnight, intercept the spacecraft that is transporting the people who have survived the fall of Asgard. All the Asgardian survivors are killed by Thanos, who also destroys the spacecraft.
The Conquest Begins
Thanos, having acquired the Power Stone from Xandar, along with his lieutenants Ebony Maw, Cull Obsidian, Proxima Midnight, and Corvus Glaive, intercepts a spaceship carrying the survivors of Asgard’s destruction. Thanos obliterates the ship, killing all the Asgardians.
As he extracts the Space Stone from the Tesseract, Thanos subdues Thor, overpowers the Hulk, and kills Loki. Despite the Hulk’s immense strength, the Power Stone ensures his defeat. Before dying, Heimdall sends the Hulk to Earth via the Bifrost. Thanos orders Maw and the others to retrieve the Time Stone from Doctor Strange and the Mind Stone from Vision on Earth, planning to meet them on Titan.
The Rise of Thanos:Earth’s Defense
The Hulk crash-lands at the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York City, reverting to Bruce Banner. He warns Stephen Strange and Wong of Thanos’ plan to kill half of all life in the universe. Strange recruits Tony Stark. Banner insists that Tony bury his differences with Captain America, as Thanos’ imminent arrival necessitates unity.
Maw and Obsidian’s arrival in New York draws Spider-Man’s attention. Bruce, unable to transform into the Hulk, watches as Maw captures Strange. Stark and Parker pursue Maw’s spaceship while Banner contacts Steve Rogers, and Wong guards the Sanctum.
The Rise of Thanos: Battle on Titan and Earth
On Maw’s spaceship, Stark and Parker defeat Maw and rescue Strange. Strange warns Stark about the Time Stone’s importance, but Stark believes engaging Thanos away from Earth is best. Meanwhile, in Scotland, Midnight and Glaive ambush Wanda Maximoff and Vision.
Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and Sam Wilson rescue them and regroup at the Avengers Compound. Vision suggests sacrificing himself to destroy the Mind Stone, but Rogers proposes they go to Wakanda, believing they can remove the stone without killing Vision.
Thanos’ Pursuit of the Infinity Stones
The Guardians of the Galaxy rescue Thor, who deduces Thanos seeks the Reality Stone from the Collector on Knowhere. They split up: Rocket and Groot accompany Thor to Nidavellir to forge a new weapon, while Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and Mantis head to Knowhere. On Knowhere, Thanos tricks Gamora and kidnaps her.
On Nidavellir, Thor, Rocket, and Eitri create Stormbreaker, a weapon capable of killing Thanos. Meanwhile, Thanos learns the Soul Stone’s location from Gamora by torturing Nebula. On Vormir, Thanos sacrifices Gamora to obtain the Soul Stone.
The Final Confrontation
Stark, Parker, and Strange land on Titan, meeting the remaining Guardians. They form a plan to seize the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos. Despite their efforts, Quill’s emotional outburst allows Thanos to break free, overpowering them. Strange surrenders the Time Stone to save Stark’s life. In Wakanda, the Avengers and Wakandan forces mount a defense.
Thor, Rocket, and Groot arrive to reinforce them. Thanos arrives and defeats the Avengers, using the Time Stone to reverse the Mind Stone’s destruction and killing Vision to retrieve it. Thor injures Thanos with Stormbreaker, but Thanos snaps his fingers, decimating half of all life in the universe.
The Rise of Thanos:Aftermath and Sacrifice
In the aftermath, the Avengers witness the disintegration of their friends and allies. On Titan, Stark and Nebula remain stranded, while on Earth, the surviving heroes regroup. Thanos retreats to a remote, peaceful world, content with his devastating victory.
In a post-credits scene, Nick Fury and Maria Hill witness the chaos before disintegrating themselves. Fury’s final act is to activate a small transmitter, displaying a starburst insignia on a red-and-blue background, signaling a new hope.
